The Danish artist Asger Jorn (1914-1973), who lived in France as well as in Switzerland and Italy, was one of the most important representatives of Scandinavian art in the 20th century. Jorn played a prominent role in various European avant-garde movements of the post-war period. As a co-founder and leading figure of movements such as CoBrA, the Situationist International, and the Scandinavian Institute for Comparative Vandalism, he fought for free and socially relevant art until his death.
