Product details
In the title poem "At the Robben Cape," dedicated to John Burnside, the atmosphere is eerie, reminiscent of an old legend: it tells of a woman with four blind children, half human and half fish, who chirped like rats and were one day stabbed by their drunken father. In the background of these deeply Scottish landscape-influenced poems: the sea and its reproachful tugging and waves, a haunting nature left eerie by Robertson, and the transience of things and people. The poet Jan Wagner has found wonderful German equivalents for the verses of this significant lyricist born in Scotland.
