Andrea Carandini is an emeritus professor of archaeology at La Sapienza University in Rome. He has led some of the most significant archaeological excavations in Rome and played a key role in the discovery of the ancient Palatine wall and the earliest phase of the Temple of Vesta. He is the president of the Italian National Trust. His numerous books include "Rome: Day One."
