Product details
The Monday Poems date back to the years 1928 to 1930, during which the young Kästner published a poem weekly in the Berlin newspaper Montag Morgen. As sharp commentaries on current events, these poems provide a vivid panorama of everyday life in the Weimar Republic and 1920s Berlin. They focus on both major politics and the hunt for a burglar disguised as a ghost, the traditional Berlin six-day race, the summer fashion of the time, or simply the weather. At the same time, Kästner repeatedly pokes fun at the small and large human weaknesses of his contemporaries, proving once again to be an incorruptible humanist with wit and heart.
