On All Souls' Day 1989, a widower and a widow, a German art historian and a Polish restorer, meet in Gdansk. Both are displaced persons; and both parents wished to rest one day in their homeland. This leads to the idea of a German-Polish cemetery society - the displaced should be allowed to return as the dead to "reconciliation cemeteries." Over the next few years, this idea develops into a thriving business and a new German settlement in Poland.
