The Kicken&Lesen project was initiated in 2007 by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation. Its goal is to promote reading skills among boys aged approximately 9 to 13 through their enthusiasm for soccer. The present educational resource has emerged from this project. It serves as a building block to teach reading as an attractive cultural and media practice to boys who struggle with reading. Boys read differently than girls and require support that takes this into account. In addition to a theoretical introduction on gender-specific reading promotion, this educational resource includes easily applicable reading tests, an introduction to the most important methods of reading promotion, a complete and practically tested implementation concept along with a comprehensive collection of materials, suggestions for the structure of practice sessions, and more.
