Learning to read is a very heterogeneous process. In addition to the often very rigid teaching materials, initial small reading tasks are needed that can be used flexibly and ideally have a high proportion of images: This way, beginning readers can work well with them and stay motivated. The present volume for reading training and promoting reading comprehension at the sentence level offers many of these visual reading exercises. The numerous clear and child-friendly illustrations encourage connecting sentences with words, matching sentences with images, or finding what has been read in pictures, and also provide access for less proficient readers or children who do not have German as their first language. Repeated and simply structured tasks, often illustrated with examples, facilitate independent individual work. The volume can also be ideally combined with the second one.
