Students are complaining about overloaded degree programs, social inequalities in the education system, the chronic underfunding of universities, and shortcomings in the awarding of bachelor's and master's degrees. For the umpteenth time in recent years, student dissatisfaction with the current study conditions has escalated into nationwide student protests. However, what is new is the broad support that students are receiving from all sides for their demands: the protesters are gaining understanding from Education Minister Annette Schavan, from the president of the Conference of Education Ministers Henry Tesch, from state politicians, rectors, and even from people in business, whose influence on learning content the demonstrators are actually criticizing. For several years now, the situation in higher education has been characterized by a pervasive dissatisfaction.
