In September 2013, 100 years after the publication of the first volume of "In Search of Lost Time," a new translation of the novel began to appear at Reclam, starting with "Swann's Way." This is the first complete translation by a single hand and the first to be based on the definitive French text, which was only edited in the 1980s. The translation is by Bernd-Jürgen Fischer, who published the bilingual Proust reader "Trois places, trois femmes, trois métiers" in 2002. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung commented on this book: "Hopefully, Bernd-Jürgen Fischer will find the courage to undertake a new translation of the entire work" – and he did. In addition to the necessary textual explanations, the translation is equipped with a commentary apparatus that includes the historical and cultural information that modern readers expect.
