When the author retires, he decides not to quietly stay at home from one day to the next. He fulfills a dream and sets off on foot from Gunzenhausen at Lake Altmühl to the distant Hiddensee in the Baltic Sea. He simply starts hiking, spending several months alone on the road, just walking and feeling the wind. He consciously wants to explore the eastern part of his homeland, which is still unfamiliar to him. Accompanying him is his alter ego, the mysterious Mr. Schufti.
