Reinanken (lat. Coregonus), known as Renken in Germany and Felchen in Switzerland, belong to the salmonid family of fish found in the lakes of Northern and Eastern Europe, as well as in the Alpine and pre-Alpine regions. They are traditionally caught with nets, but the new fishing method of Hegenefischerei also allows sport fishermen to target these sought-after trout fish. Since then, more and more anglers have succumbed to the fascination of fishing for Reinanken. Through the observation of various Coregonus species, the evaluation of catch records and statistics, and especially through intensive exchanges of experiences with fellow anglers in Austria, Switzerland, and Bavaria, Franz Hofer has acquired expertise that he now shares practically with all enthusiasts of Reinanke.
