The novel of a legend. Who doesn't know their catchy tunes "Veronika, the Spring is Here," "My Little Green Cactus," or "Weekend and Sunshine"? The young men - five singers and a pianist - came together in Berlin in 1927 through a newspaper ad. After months of rehearsals, their first variety performances were already a great success. Guest appearances in Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Cape Town, and Sydney made the sextet world-famous. However, everything changed quickly and radically after the Nazis came to power in 1933. Even the English name aroused suspicion among the authorities. Three of the ensemble members were Jewish and were not admitted to the Reich Music Chamber - which meant nothing less than a performance ban on German stages. Or - as in this case due to their prominence - only with exceptions, harassment, and disruptions.
