"The Shine of My Eyes" is what the blacksmith calls his favorite daughter Gül. After her mother, who was as beautiful as a piece of the moon, dies young, the girl believes she must take special care of her younger sisters. Gül is small but strong, and above all, she can love and knows that one must not be frightened by anything. Selim Özdogan tells simply and poetically about life in an Anatolian town, the taste of carefreeness in summer, the sayings of ancestors, and the impatient wishes of the young. Gül's story is full of tenderness, suffering, and longing, much like the Anatolian blues.
