Product details

A provocative examination of German inner peace. For the first time since the end of the exhibition "War of Annihilation: Crimes of the Wehrmacht 1941 to 1944," Hannes Heer speaks out about the background of the campaign against the exhibition, of which he was the director. It questioned the legend of the clean Wehrmacht, and the shock was correspondingly great. After four years, the attempts to defame the exhibition were successful. It was withdrawn and replaced by a new, completely toned-down version. In this version, the war and its crimes have become the work of a few specialists again. It presents actions without perpetrators. However, the process of the perpetrators' disappearance began earlier. Hannes Heer finds significant evidence in records and post-war memories of soldiers, in the censorship of Böll's and Remarque's war novels, and in Ernst Jünger's reinterpretation.
