What Remains of the Dreams. Before the reunification, they stood on different sides: Gregor Gysi, son of the GDR's Minister of Culture Klaus Gysi and a lawyer, and Friedrich Schorlemmer, the son of a pastor and an opposition figure. In this very personal conversation with journalist Hans-Dieter Schütt, both recall a vanished country and how they experienced it. They discuss what will endure, but also what belongs in the dustbin of history. Gregor Gysi, son of the resistance fighter and later Minister of Culture of the GDR Klaus Gysi, was among the more system-friendly figures, albeit one watched closely by the nomenclature of the GDR. Friedrich Schorlemmer, a pastor, opposition figure, and co-initiator of the civil rights movement "Swords to Plowshares," always maintained a critical stance towards the GDR and its leaders. Both remember a difficult country that shaped them like 17 million others.
