The new four-volume selection edition is less biographically oriented towards the development of Luther's theology and more focused on the impact achieved by the event of Luther: it highlights his reformative writings, organized by themes, in those dimensions that have been consequential for the transformation of the existing church structure and have permanently shaped the establishment of a Protestant church. The text design aims to preserve the original linguistic sound, as long as Latin writings are not translated into High German: in terms of vocabulary, phonetics, and grammatical forms, the text of the Weimar Luther edition remains unchanged. Careful orthographic modernizations serve as reading aids.
