In the early 1960s, the chimneys in Saarland were still smoking, and our parents were earning good money. We ate homemade vegetable puree, and our diapers were boiled on the kitchen stove. With a mortgage of muscle, our parents managed to get a modest little house while we roamed through meadows and forests. Our hair grew longer, and the girls' skirts got shorter. We listened to Hallo Twen on Saarland Radio and formed our own beat band. When we celebrated our graduation, we realized that we were slowly becoming adults.
