Ingrid and Jan have been married for 25 years and lead a prosperous life in Oslo, Norway. But Ingrid can’t take it anymore – she sees everything in black. The joyless marriage frustrates her, the commitment at work is merely pretended, and no comfort can be expected from their teenage sons. While Ingrid begins therapy, Jan slips into an affair with his young colleague Hanne. This lasts for a year, after which Hanne forces the hesitant Jan to leave Ingrid.
