Auguste Rodin at the Albertinum
GermanProduct details
Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) shaped the sculpture of an entire century. The Dresden Sculpture Collection was able to establish the largest Rodin collection in Germany by 1912, with a total of 20 works - perhaps also the most unusual, as it consists mainly of plaster sculptures alongside bronzes and a marble piece. Rodin valued the aesthetic effect of plaster. Additionally, the sculptor had a keen interest in the then still young medium of photography and used it to promote and interpret his works. In collaboration with the photographer Eugène Druet, photographs were taken starting in 1896 that showcase Rodin's works from unusual perspectives and in an atmospheric setting. These were also acquired by the Dresden collection.
