The black stork is, unlike the white stork, extremely rare in Germany and is considered a threatened species. The photographer, Dr. Bengt Thomas Gröbel, has spent several years documenting a black stork family and capturing the animals' behavior in fascinating and brilliant photographs. The images compiled in this photo book transport the reader into a completely new world: they depict the one-year life cycle of a black stork family, from nest building to courtship, breeding, and raising the young. The accompanying expert texts are by Martin Hormann, an ornithologist at the Bird Protection Station in Frankfurt, who has dedicated many years of research to the black stork.
