The German balance sheet tax law has been shaped for over 130 years by the principle of the relevance of the commercial balance sheet for the tax balance sheet. However, current developments in German accounting show that this principle of relevance is being questioned more than ever. With the draft of a Balance Sheet Law Modernization Act, the legislator is demonstrating its efforts to modernize German balance sheet law by aligning it more closely with international accounting standards (IFRS). Within the framework of the BilMoG, the informational function of the individual financial statements is significantly enhanced compared to the status quo. It remains questionable whether an increasingly information-oriented individual financial statement is still suitable for tax assessment purposes. This book aims to provide insight into the impact that the proposed BilMoG will have on the adherence to the principle of relevance.
