Product details

In the literary debate about autobiography, the French author and literary scholar Serge Doubrovsky introduced the term autofiction, which has increasingly resonated in research and literary criticism over the past few decades. However, those who use the term are not always in agreement about what exactly is meant by autofiction. It is possible that the theoretical and text-analytical productivity of the term lies precisely in the different emphases it allows. The idea that the truth of a life can best be represented through fiction was already known to Goethe, who titled his autobiography "Dichtung und Wahrheit" (Poetry and Truth). However, in contemporary literature, there is a growing awareness of the fundamental fictional nature of the self, leading to new forms.
