A day like any other in Beirut in 1987. The Lebanese capital is torn apart by a civil war that has been raging for years and will continue for years to come. A demarcation line, known as the "Green Line," separates the Christian West from the Muslim East. Snipers, military patrols, and roadblocks turn Beirut into a labyrinth where short distances can take hours to traverse. The people who have not fled across the borders to neighboring countries adapt their lives and daily routines to war and siege. In 1987, Zeina Abirached is seven years old, a child of war. She lives with her family right on the edge of the demarcation line. Over the years of war, their apartment has shrunk to just a few square meters in the entrance area - the rooms with windows are for the children - and serves during the bombings.
