"Three Paths" is a graphic novel in three episodes. Spanning a time frame of 50 years each, the stories unfold around Ida, Marlies, and Selin, the three young protagonists of the book. Ida lives in Berlin in 1918, the last year of World War I, and is employed as a maid in a family of doctors. Her father serves as a military doctor in the war. Ida befriends the mother, but gradually this role model begins to crumble. Marlies, in 1968, comes from the working class, reads a lot, and works in a café. She would prefer to train as a bookseller. In the café, she meets Wolfgang, a young literature student who is involved in the Berlin SDS. Selin lives in the present and has just graduated from high school. While her best friend Alina has grand plans - to study in America - Selin and her best friend Finn drift aimlessly.
