Russia during the Tsarist era: In the finest tradition of Tolstoy, a colorful ensemble of societal outcasts is brought together through various misfortunes and adverse circumstances. The turbulent narrative begins with Noah Davidovich, also known as "Baron," who, along with his Jewish band, falls into an ambush set by a rival Klezmer orchestra in the snowy Russian province.
