Ayurveda is one of the oldest medical and health systems in human history. Written sources date back to the first century before Christ. Ayurveda is referred to as the science of healthy living. Key points of the very complex Ayurvedic doctrine are the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), fundamental dynamic principles that regulate the energy balance in living organisms. Overall, Ayurveda recognizes seven constitution types based on these three principles. Rarely do the existing publications on this topic present the contents of Ayurvedic medicine in a coherent and understandable manner, despite their claim to scientific rigor. This book follows the guidelines for the scientific study of Ayurveda and is used as a textbook by many schools. It encompasses the history of Ayurvedic medicine.
