The photographer Marko Lipus has traced the footsteps of his grandmother Maria Karnicar, who was murdered in the Ravensbrück concentration camp in 1945. The Slovenian from Carinthia was imprisoned in 1943 without any given reason and never returned. At the site of the crime, Lipus photographed what remains: buildings, everyday objects, the surroundings, and artistically altered them through interventions in the photographs. This intervention makes visible the personal and collective tragedy of the women murdered in Ravensbrück. "Babica" is an impressive photo book that gives a face to the unmarked victims and preserves their story from being forgotten.
