Hamburg, 1960. Astrid Kirchherr has completed her art studies and is at the beginning of her career as a photographer. Late at night, her friend Klaus Voormann stands at her door and excitedly recounts what he experienced in St. Pauli: a band of young Englishmen played rock 'n' roll in a bar called Kaiserkeller. Based on numerous conversations with Astrid Kirchherr, Arne Bellstorf developed a story that captures both the Hamburg subculture of the 1960s and the tragic love between the young Hamburg photographer and the musician and artist Stuart Sutcliffe, whom John Lennon had met at the Liverpool College of Art.
