Men in the teaching profession are still the exception. Even though they are consistently desired by parents, colleagues, and organizations, and the profession of educator largely promises secure career prospects, very few men still find their way into daycare centers. Not even five percent of the pedagogical professionals working in daycare centers nationwide are male. The federal program 'MORE Men in Daycare Centers,' conducted from 2010 to 2013, also could not contribute to a significant change in this number. So how can we succeed in attracting men to the teaching profession? The author addresses the question of which influencing factors affect the career choices of boys and men, and how these can be shaped so that the profession of educator appears in the career choice spectrum of boys and job-seeking men.
