Tens of thousands of people take their own lives each year in Germany. It has been proven that the older a person is, the higher the suicide rates become. This book closely examines the topic of suicide in old age. It addresses the question of which factors are causally related to the suicidal behavior of many elderly individuals, how suicidal tendencies can be recognized, and what society is doing preventively to avert suicides in advance. The author compiles individual findings and scientifically substantiated claims from the literature to create a comprehensible picture of the situation. Personally conducted interviews will complement these findings. Suicide in old age also significantly affects the profession of social work, and social workers can make a crucial contribution to preventing suicidal behaviors.
