Music is an integral part of our culture and is present in our daily lives. It surrounds us from morning to night, whether desired or undesired, consciously or unconsciously, in the foreground or as an acoustic background. Everyone knows, or has at least heard, that music can influence us and is sometimes intended to do so. However, only scientific studies ultimately prove the controversial effects of music. This paper summarizes all published studies, experiments, and investigations since the early 19th century that demonstrate the impact of music on our organism. The aim of the paper is to provide a comprehensive insight into the proven effects of music so far.
