The remigration of Jewish theater artists: returning to a "broken life." Remigration: for a long time, this was an underexplored - sometimes too sensitive - topic in contemporary history. This also applies to a professional group that was particularly "in the spotlight" of the public: Jewish theater artists. Anat Feinberg makes the first attempt at a comprehensive presentation by examining the fates of 200 theater artists who returned to one of the two parts of Germany after 1945, either permanently or temporarily. Among the most well-known were Ernst Deutsch, Steffie Spira, and Claudius Kraushaar. While the majority of the permanent returnees managed to re-establish themselves in German theater life, for many remigrants, the return proved to be a challenge and sometimes even an overwhelming experience.
