Rainer Maria Schlaicher needs a vacation, but he has no money for it. It’s a fortunate coincidence that $100,000 is missing from the cash register of a luxury travel company and Schlaicher is supposed to investigate in the USA. However, everything takes a different turn: after an Indian meets an unfortunate end in the Grand Canyon, it’s back to southern Baden, where Commissioner Schlageter faces the challenges of late love and Dr. Watson deals with a sharp-tongued poodle lady. At the same time, a postman from Schönau disappears in the Bermuda Triangle, and Schlaicher embarks on a search for a murderer who is more ruthless than Billy the Kid.
