Product details

A monument of solo violin music, a touchstone for any ambitious violinist – these superlatives are attributed to the "Sei Solo," better known as the "Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin" by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach creates various relationships on multiple levels, some clearly recognizable, others subtle: a cosmos of diverse forms and violin playing, from the monophonic line to contrapuntal writing. Exploring this, recognizing connections against the backdrop of biographical, music-historical, and compositional contexts is the purpose of this book. At the same time, Bernhard Moosbauer provides guidance for a well-founded interpretation rooted in the compositional understanding of the solos for violinists of all backgrounds.

• Introduction to the music history and structure of the famous solo works
• Description and classification of all movements within the overall framework
• For professional and non-professional violinists as well as all music enthusiasts

Bernhard Moosbauer studied music education, composition, musicology, and baroque violin in Stuttgart, Tübingen, and Strasbourg. He mainly focuses on baroque chamber music and also plays in various ensembles and orchestras with original instruments in southern Germany. His research interests include instrumental music of the 17th and 18th centuries and the symphonic works of the Viennese classics. He has published editions of works by Corelli, Vivaldi, Biber, and Handel, as well as scholarly articles and book publications. His monograph on Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" was published by Bärenreiter.
