Amsterdam in November 1942. Lena Muller brings little Salo to kindergarten. She kisses him on the forehead and says, "See you this evening and be good!" These are the last words Salo Muller hears from his mother. On the same day, his parents are arrested by the Germans and later deported to Auschwitz. Salo becomes an orphan, but the Dutch resistance manages to hide him until liberation.

After the war, Salo Muller gains recognition as a physiotherapist for Johan Cruyff's Ajax Amsterdam during the team's golden years from 1960 to 1972. Although he must think of his parents day and night, he, like so many survivors, can only tell his story in advanced age.

When Muller hears in 2014 that the French state railway is paying 60 million euros to victims of deportation, he decides to take action. He has also demanded compensation from the Dutch railway. After three years, the company announced it would pay around 50 million euros. Currently, Salo Muller is taking action against Deutsche Bahn. His cause is widely discussed in the German public and is supported in the Bundestag by the Greens, the FDP, and the Left.
