His act does not go unpunished; he must awaken to life a second time, marking the beginning of a new era. After the primordial night comes the day, and the rhythm of the seasons can begin. This narrative recounts an origin myth of the Mixtecs, an early indigenous high culture of Mexico, through poetic imagery. The main character is the Tlacuache, the South American opossum, the only marsupial in Central America and one of the oldest mammals on Earth. In mythology, the Tlacuache appears as a thief at times and as the one who carries the sky at others. One thing is certain: the Tlacuache loved festivities and was close to the gods.
