What expectations do party members have of party leaders? While traditional party research has focused on institutional and strategic aspects of intra-party leadership, this book shifts the focus to personality. Based on a survey of over 22,000 members of the CDU, SPD, and Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, the author demonstrates that good leadership qualities are cognitively linked by party members and condense into three ideal-typical profiles. The results make it clear: effective leadership for members is not solely determined by formal organizational models. Personality significantly contributes to the perception and acceptance of political leadership.
