The specialized course "Fundamentals of Automotive Technology" provides another building block to demonstrate the interaction between traditional vehicle and engine technology and today's vehicle electronics. In the past, automotive technology primarily meant mechanics; today, integrated mechanical, electronic, and digital systems can be found everywhere. This development has also influenced automotive professions. In 2001, the automotive mechanic and automotive electrician were combined into the automotive mechatronics technician. These professionals are knowledgeable not only about drivetrains, body panels, and transmissions but also about onboard computers, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), traction control systems (ASR), and electronically controlled stability programs (ESP) for dynamic driving control.
