The subject of machine elements is understood as a kind of building block that provides the components with which the complete machine is ultimately assembled. Recently, this field has undergone a significant transformation, as the traditionally prominent cataloging of machine elements is now more readily available outside of classic textbook literature due to the internet. However, since this overwhelming flood of information primarily serves commercial purposes, it is the role of the textbook to establish an engineering foundation: a clear, didactically optimized structure should facilitate orientation in this often confusing environment. This book starts from the models of mechanics and gradually expands them into real machine elements in well-measured steps. The first volume initially addresses the fundamental component sizing, building upon it with shafts, axles, operational strength, springs, connection techniques, and screws. To further deepen understanding, each section is accompanied by a task set that is differentiated by difficulty, aimed at transforming knowledge into skill. The solutions to the tasks are listed in tabular form in the book's appendix. Additionally, detailed calculations are accessible online. A directory of specialized literature and standards further facilitates advanced applications.
