Politics is always in motion. There are constants, but they are also constantly changing. In their functions, however, they are indispensable for a democracy: parliaments, participation—especially elections—or international relations; media or human rights are fundamental components of democratic systems. For political education to fulfill its purpose of promoting competent and critical participation in political life, a sound knowledge of politics and democracy, political processes and procedures, and structures and functions is necessary. In "Basic Knowledge of Political Education," this fundamental knowledge is presented in a clear and comprehensible way. In addition to basic information on politics and democracy, essential elements of political systems are explained, especially the Austrian political system (political levels, institutions, participation, etc.).
