The present work is the second edition of the book "Non-compressor Diesel Engines," which has long been out of print. The unfavorable circumstances of the time prevented me from completing its revision earlier. The title chosen for the first edition no longer seems justified. Today, no one would build a diesel engine that atomizes fuel using compressed air. The pressure atomization, invented by Sir James McKechnie, the technical director of Vickers Ltd., and first described in British Patent No. 27,579 dated November 26, 1910, has become common knowledge. It is remarkable that McKechnie mentioned injection pressures of 6000 lb.fsq. back then, which are still successfully used today. The development of pressure atomization primarily took place between 1920 and 1930. The significant contribution of foreign developments in this area is also addressed.
