This publication presents a construction analysis of a new bridge construction method, the bridge folding method with compression struts. A cost-effectiveness comparison between two common bridge construction methods (the incremental launching method and cantilevering) and the bridge folding method evaluates the competitiveness of this new bridge construction technique for building high valley bridges. The ongoing construction of the Andelsbachtal Bridge serves as a case study. This work outlines all construction-related tasks and processes required for implementing the bridge folding method with the compression strut variant. It filters suitable valley shapes and an economical formwork system, and analyzes both the vertical and incremental construction of the bridge hollow boxes, leading up to the application of the lifting device that enables the folding process. Furthermore, the necessary construction site workflow is defined and presented in a detailed schedule.
