During the Second World War, the cultural assets of South Tyrol were systematically recorded in connection with the planned and partially realised resettlement of South Tyroleans. Particular interest was shown in the evidence of rural building culture, which had hardly been researched at the time. The extensive material was dispersed after the end of the war and only brought together again around 1980 at the Monuments Office in Bolzano.
