John of Leers
German, 2013Product details
Born in 1902, militarized in the Freikorps movement, intellectualized in the Jünger circle, and politicized in the völkisch-nationalist circles of the Weimar Republic, Leers found his way to the NSDAP early on. In the immediate vicinity of Goebbels, his political rise began, which made him one of the most significant yet controversial publicists of the Third Reich, largely unnoticed by the public in the following years. Nevertheless, Leers remained a political outsider within the Nazi power structure. No other person better illustrates the possibilities and limitations of public opinion formation in the Third Reich than Johann von Leers. After the war, he continued his journalistic agitation first from exile in Argentina, and later as a converted Muslim in Egypt. Until his death, he remained one of the focal points.
