The Eberswalde Faculty of Forestry at the Humboldt University of Berlin became embroiled in the intrigues of the Cold War during the 1950s. There were real and supposed agents, party enemies, informants, intrigues, and from the state's perspective, primarily an inadequate political education. In August 1962, the SED leadership ordered the dissolution of the faculty. The following year marked the end of the internationally recognized Eberswalde higher education after more than 130 years. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the closure, historian Burghard Ciesla has reconstructed the events of that time for the newly established Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) in 1992. Together with forestry scientist Hans-Friedrich Joachim, Ciesla tells the story of the forestry faculty and its demise in all its facets. The book "Protocol of a Closure" is based on the documentary film of the same name.
