These dead have imposed on me the responsibility to bear witness to their suffering, before their families, humanity, and the free world. Never before has the brutal nature of the Assad regime been revealed so clearly as in this book. "Caesar" - as he is known by his alias - was a photographer for the Syrian military police. For two years, after the uprising against Assad began, he had to photograph the victims of the regime: the corpses of opposition members who had been brutally tortured to death.
