About the Work
On December 1, 2023, the European Parliament and the Council reached a political agreement on the proposed Cyber Resilience Act. This legal act, structured as a regulation, is the first of its kind worldwide and aims to improve the cybersecurity of digital products for both consumers and businesses. The cybersecurity requirements that will apply after the regulation comes into force will cover all hardware and software designed, developed, and marketed in the EU. Furthermore, manufacturers will be required to offer consumers security updates for a certain period after the purchase of a relevant product. Currently, the regulation is expected to come into effect in the second half of 2024. The Yellow Commentary addresses the regulation norm by norm, providing detailed explanations as necessary while keeping it concise, thus offering readers a valuable introduction to the Cyber Resilience Act.
