The Rose Garden, created in the 13th century, is arguably the most popular work of classical Persian literature. During Sa'di's lifetime, it became well-known far beyond the borders of his homeland and is now considered one of the outstanding works of world literature. Sheikh Muslih ad-Din Sa'di (circa 1192 to 1292) expresses in it the experiences and encounters he gathered during his thirty years of wandering as a dervish through various countries of the East. Dieter Bellmann has revised this classic based on Karl Heinrich Graf's translation and provides a detailed afterword discussing Sa'di's life and work.
