The literature of the world is in motion: As a result of the decolonization of the 1960s and the globalization of the last 30 years, a completely new, non-Western literature has emerged, mostly written by migrants and language switchers from former colonies and crisis regions. Nomadic authors tell vibrant and rich stories, reflecting on mixed heritages and hybrid identities, transnational migrations, and difficult integrations in a variety of tones. Sigrid Löffler introduces their most important representatives and skillfully situates their works within the major political and cultural conflict areas of the present, from V.S. Naipaul, Salman Rushdie, Michael Ondaatje, and J.M. Coetzee to Aleksandar Hemon, Teju Cole, and Gary Shteyngart.
