Ludwig Wittgenstein is one of the great European philosophers and one of the most important of this century. Few thinkers captivate and fascinate as he does, not just philosophers. His works belong to world literature beyond the textual corpus of philosophy. They have influenced writers, artists, psychologists, and social scientists. His writings are anything but popular in style. Wittgenstein made no compromises in his life or in his writing. He advocated for simplicity, but not for oversimplification. The purity and clarity of his thought captivates his readers, yet does not consume them. He maintains a distance and encourages independent thinking. However, nothing is quickly understandable through one's own work on his texts. Some things may seem easy and clear, but turn out to be difficult. For both reasons, we can learn from his books.
